📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower
🌕 Get Ready, Hudson—A Total Lunar Eclipse is Coming! 🌕
Heads up, Hudson! This Thursday night into early Friday morning (March 13-14, 2025), the sky is putting on a spectacular show. A total lunar eclipse, also known as a Blood Moon, will be visible right over our town. No tickets or special gear needed—just look up!
🌕 Why Is It Called a Blood Moon, You Ask? 🌕
Alright, let’s talk about why the Moon is about to get all dramatic on us. During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, blocking the sunlight that usually makes our lunar buddy glow bright in the night sky. But instead of going completely dark, the Moon takes on a deep **reddish-orange** color—hence the spooky name, Blood Moon. 🩸🌕

So, why the red glow? It’s all thanks to something called **Rayleigh Scattering**—the same effect that makes sunrises and sunsets look fiery orange. When the Sun’s light passes through Earth’s atmosphere, the blue wavelengths get scattered (which is why the sky is blue during the day), while the longer red wavelengths bend around the Earth and illuminate the Moon. Science is wild, right? 🤯
Bottom line: The Moon isn’t bleeding, disappearing, or turning into a werewolf signal (probably). It’s just taking a moment to show off some celestial mood lighting, and we get front-row seats! So here are the prime viewing times:
📍 Hudson Eclipse Timeline:
- 11:57 PM (March 13): The eclipse begins (the Moon starts dimming).
- 1:09 AM: Partial eclipse—Earth’s shadow creeps across the Moon.
- 2:26 AM:Totality begins! The Moon turns a deep, eerie red.
- 2:58 AM: Peak eclipse—prime viewing time! Don't forget to set your alarm!
- 3:31 AM: Totality ends, the Moon starts returning to normal.
- 4:47 AM: The partial eclipse is over.
- 6:00 AM: The show is done.
🚀 Best Viewing Tips:
- 🔭 You don’t need a telescope—just step outside and enjoy!
- 🌌 Find a dark spot away from streetlights for the best view.
- 📷 Want to snap a photo? Use night mode on your phone or a camera with manual settings.
This is the last total lunar eclipse we’ll see in Hudson until September, so don’t sleep on it (unless, of course, you need your beauty rest).
The weather is looking promising, so fingers crossed for clear skies—and if you’re up watching, send your best eclipse photos to us: [email protected]! 🌕📸
