☀️ The Scoop on Hudson Weather

Spring is definitely in the mood to show off this week — we've got sunshine, a little drama from some thunderstorms, and just enough cool-down to make your coffee taste extra good. Here’s how the week is shaping up:

  • 🌤 Today, April 28 – High: 76°F | Low: 60°F
Partly cloudy and warm, a total “get outside and pretend you don’t have emails” kind of day.

  • Tuesday, April 29 – High: 81°F | Low: 61°F
Breezy and warm with scattered afternoon thunderstorms trying to crash the party. (Maybe don’t trust your hairdo.)

  • 🌥 Wednesday, April 30 – High: 61°F | Low: 45°F
Mostly cloudy and cooler — a good day for cozy hoodies and maybe a donut from George's.

  • 🌦 Thursday, May 1 – High: 67°F | Low: 53°F
Cloudy with a chance of showers, but not a total washout. (Good excuse to finally use that umbrella you keep forgetting in your trunk.)

  • 🌥 Friday, May 2 – High: 65°F | Low: 48°F
Starting cloudy but brightening up later. Perfect timing to roll into the weekend feeling semi-sun-kissed.

Spring’s giving us the full sampler this week — a little sun, a little rain, a little breeze — basically Ohio doing what Ohio does best. May is finally here and with it comes those perfect “leave your windows open” evenings we’ve all been waiting for. !

📰 Fresh Off the Clocktower

🌎 Happy Pay It Forward Day, Hudson!

Today, April 28 is all about doing good without expecting anything in return—just a ripple of kindness that keeps going long after you’ve moved on with your day.

The idea is simple: do something thoughtful for someone else, then encourage them to do the same for someone new. It could be as small as letting someone in front of you at Acme, covering a stranger’s coffee, or leaving an encouraging note in a library book. The beauty of paying it forward is that it doesn’t have to be big—it just has to be kind.

This whole movement started in Australia back in 2007, and now it’s grown into a global day of good vibes in over 85 countries. Pretty amazing what one act of generosity can spark.

So if you’ve been looking for a reason to do something nice — today is the day! Hudson’s already full of neighborly spirit. Let’s turn that dial up and surprise someone with a little joy.

One act of kindness can echo way farther than you think. Let’s start a few echoes today. 💙

🛻 Mulch Delivery That Boosts More Than Your Garden

Mulch season has officially hit Hudson, and the Athletic Booster Club is ready to deliver — literally and figuratively. Their annual Mulch Drive isn’t just about tidying up your flower beds. Every order helps fuel the teams, players, and local sports we all love cheering for.

Here’s the play-by-play:

  • Order your mulch online, quick and easy.
  • Free delivery for Hudson addresses (because hometown perks are the best perks).
  • Drop a bucket or tarp on your driveway to show them where to unload.
  • Pro tip: schedule your delivery for the day before you plan to spread it, since deliveries roll out all day long.

Bulk mulch starts at $32 per yard, and free delivery kicks in with a 5-yard minimum. Live outside Hudson or need less? No problem — just add a $40 delivery fee.

Deliveries start rolling out May 1. Fresh mulch, stronger teams, cleaner gardens — it’s a win-win-win.

🎉 Hudson Science Olympiad Team is Nationals-Bound — Let’s Lift Them Higher!

Hudson Middle School’s Science Olympiad team didn’t just show up at states — they brought home 2nd place and earned their shot at the National Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska! 🏆✨

These kids have poured in the work — late nights, long weekends, endless experiments — and now they get to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best young scientists from across the country.

Here’s the next challenge: getting the team there. Travel, lodging, and competition expenses are expected to top $30,000. Every donation brings them one step closer to Nationals.

They've already made us proud. Let’s help make their trip to Nationals unforgettable. 🚀💙

🎭 Big News from Playhouse Square: Broadway in Akron is Back!

Broadway magic is heading back to Akron — and Playhouse Square just revealed the 2025–2026 Broadway in Akron Series, celebrating ten years of bringing world-class theater to town.

Over the last decade, season ticket holders have more than doubled, and the 2024–25 season just shattered records with 20,000+ guests packing into E.J. Thomas Hall. Safe to say... Akron loves a good show.

Here’s what’s coming next season:

  • THE BOOK OF MORMON (Sept 30 – Oct 1, 2025) – Winner of nine Tony Awards and called “the best musical of this century” by The New York Times. Expect sharp humor, wild energy, and songs you’ll be humming for days.

  • ELF THE MUSICAL (Nov 11 – 12, 2025) – Buddy the Elf hits the stage in a brand-new production, fresh off Broadway. It's hilarious, heartwarming, and packed with Christmas spirit. (Warning: You might leave craving maple syrup.)

  • MRS. DOUBTFIRE (Jan 20 – 21, 2026) – Based on the beloved film, this musical brings big laughs, bigger heart, and a Scottish nanny with a whole lot of wig energy.

  • Meredith Willson’s THE MUSIC MAN (Feb 18 – 19, 2026) – A fast-talking salesman meets his match in small-town River City. With songs like “Seventy-Six Trombones” and “Til There Was You,” it’s the classic Broadway musical your family will love.

Season ticket packages range from $80–$365 and come with perks like:

  • Best prices and best seats
  • Easy ticket exchanges
  • Presale offers for other events
  • Complimentary parking for some packages

🎟️ Season tickets are available now right here or by calling 216-640-8800 (weekdays, 9 AM–5 PM). Individual show tickets will go on sale later — stay tuned!

🌽🎻🎭 Other Shows Heating Up Playhouse Square + Cleveland Stages

🌽 Shucked
Now through May 11, 2025 at Playhouse Square

The Tony-winning musical filled with heart, humor, and more corny jokes than you can count. Expect a toe-tapping, big-hearted story that feels just as much at home in a Broadway theater as it would in a country song.

✅ Tickets available here: Buy Shucked Tickets
✅ Heads up: Some dates are already filling fast, especially weekends!

🎻 Fiddler on the Roof
Now through May 25, 2025 at the Allen Theatre, Playhouse Square

Tradition meets the stage with this beloved story of Tevye, family, and change — and if you want a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, onstage seating is available for just $29.50. You’ll literally be part of Anatevka.

🎟️ Tickets available here: Buy Fiddler Tickets

Quick note on availability:
- Early May shows are very limited
- Mid-May still has good availability for those who don’t mind waiting a bit

If you want to go — don’t sit on it (unless you're sitting onstage, then by all means, sit away!).

🚪 Noises Off
April 25–May 18, 2025 at the Hanna Theatre, Playhouse Square

Doors slamming, sardines flying, actors forgetting their lines — this backstage farce is chaotic, ridiculous, and absolutely hilarious.

🎟️ Tickets available here: Buy Noises Off Tickets

Big year for theater fans around here — so many standing ovation moments ahead. (*And probably a few corn jokes you’ll still be laughing about a week later.* 🌽)

🎭 Looking for Live Theater Close to Home? We’ve Got You Covered

We just highlighted all the big Broadway shows heading to Playhouse Square and Akron — but if you’re looking for performances happening right here in Hudson, you’re in luck. Hudson Players has a new comedy that’s moving fast, hitting hard, and guaranteed to keep you laughing.

Get ready for a wildly funny crash course in Greek Mythology. The show takes all the famous myths — the messy love stories, the botched heroics, the legendary wars — and retells them in a way that’s fast, chaotic, and absolutely hilarious.

You’ll see the gods treated like red carpet celebrities, the Creation of the World turned into a home improvement disaster, and the Trojan War played out like an epic grudge match. Big drama, bigger laughs, and zero time for a boring moment.

Performances run weekends from May 2 through May 17, with evening and matinee shows to fit your schedule.

👉 Grab your tickets here: Purchase Tickets

It’s Greek Mythology like you’ve never seen it — and it’s going to be a ridiculously fun ride.

🏆 Roll Hud Recap

🏐 Boys' Volleyball

The Explorers came out swinging against Western Reserve Academy on Wednesday, grabbing a 3-1 win and looking sharp when it counted most. After three tight sets, Hudson slammed the door with a dominant 25-15 finish to close it out.

Big Shoutouts:
Owen Stearns racked up 22 kills and three aces, and Jackson Battaglia fueled the offense with a jaw-dropping 53 assists.

The energy stayed high heading into Saturday, but Mt. Vernon had other plans. Hudson battled hard — scoring at least 18 points in every set — but the Yellowjackets walked away with a 3-1 win. Final scores: 25-20, 25-27, 25-18, 25-22. A tough loss, but a full-on fight from the Explorers from start to finish.

Hudson now sits at 9-6 on the season and is ready to reset with more conference matchups ahead. Next stop: Normandy, Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

⚾ Boys' Baseball

Tough one at The Nest — the Explorers fell to Stow-Munroe Falls 4-2 in extra innings on Thursday. Hudson held strong through seven scoreless innings, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead with a four-run burst in the 11th.

Season Update: Hudson drops to 11-3 but plenty of season left to make noise.

🥎 Girls' Softball

Big cheers for the Explorers softball team — they picked up their first win of the season in a big way, beating Orange 8-1 on Thursday!

Offensive Highlights:Shawna Baylor crushed a homer, Corinne Stearns racked up three hits, and Gianna Pirtle and Eva Masiella each chipped in with two hits of their own.

Pitching Power:Claire Eland dominated on the mound, striking out 15 and keeping Orange’s offense quiet all game long.

Huge congrats to the team for locking down that first win — here’s to plenty more ahead!

🥍 Girls' Lacrosse

The Explorer lacrosse squad keeps the perfect season alive! Hudson took down Hoover 9-6 Thursday night to stay undefeated at 10-0.

Season Update: Hudson’s offense continues to roll, now sitting at 138 goals scored this season — and counting.

#RollHUD!

🏀 Cavs One Win Away from a First-Round Sweep

The Cavaliers are putting on a show! After a dominant 124–87 win over the Heat in Game 3, Cleveland now leads the first-round playoff series 3-0 and is one win away from punching their ticket to Round 2.

The team turned up the defense, took control early, and never let Miami find their footing. It was all Cavs, all night — and the energy is carrying straight into Game 4.

Fun fact: teams that go up 3-0 in a best-of-seven series have a 100% success rate. It’s not official yet, but the numbers are definitely on Cleveland’s side.

Game 4 tips off Monday night in Miami. Let’s keep the momentum rolling, Cavs! 🏀🔥
